Move an Excel job application tracker into a private board

Excel remains useful for analysis and custom columns. The tracker adds a focused daily workflow while keeping CSV as the bridge between both tools.

Open the private tracker

Use the format that preserves text

Choose CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (.csv) when saving the workbook. UTF-8 keeps names and notes in languages beyond English intact. Excel may warn that CSV supports only the active sheet; save the sheet containing your application table.

The importer handles commas, quotation marks, and line breaks inside quoted cells. Company and Role are the only required columns.

Map the useful columns

  • Position or Job Title becomes Role.
  • Stage becomes Status.
  • Compensation becomes Salary.
  • Follow-up Date becomes Next Action.
  • CV Version becomes Resume Version.

Compare your workbook with the sample CSV if the header row is unusual. Extra columns are ignored rather than uploaded elsewhere.

Import, verify, then back up

  1. Choose Import and select the CSV UTF-8 file.
  2. Review every reported row error before confirming valid rows.
  3. Check the counts in Saved, Applied, Interview, Offer, and Rejected.
  4. Download a JSON backup once the board is correct.

Keep the original workbook until you have checked several records, including a note with commas or multiple lines.
